Family
happenings of: After IHS, I attended the Ohio University Branch for two years. I graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. with a degree in education. Sandi and I met at Marshall University while we were doing graduate work in our respective educational fields. Sandi and I were employed by Cabell County Bd. of Ed. (Huntington, WV.). We were married in 1970. Sandi became a special education specialist. During her career she developed innovative programs for the gifted, hearing, and visual impaired students. This brought quality education to these students helping the county avoid costly out of county tuition for these students. I stayed in the classroom teaching junior high/middle school science and health. I coached, too. I developed a respectable hands-on science program that was recognized by my colleagues as I was privileged to receive the Cabell County Teacher of the Year in 1997. Sandi retired in 1998 and I semi-retired in 1999. Sandi
enjoys collecting WV glassware, cooking, and participating in community
service projects. I enjoy
gardening and amateur photography.
Since my recovery from recent back surgery, we have resumed
walking and riding our bikes in Ritter Park near our home. When time and finances allow, we enjoy long driving vacations
thorough out the United States, but especially the western mountain
states. My son and I have
started taking annual fishing trips. We have four
children. Billy (the
oldest), Amy, and twin daughters Susie and Betsy born in 1980.
We jokingly refer to our life's adventure together as
"before and after" twins - a very busy time for us.
All of our kids are doing well in their respective chosen
careers. Billy writes
software for a company. Amy
is a student support counselor and teaches a psychology class at
Marshall University. Betsy
and Susie received degrees in biochemistry.
Betsy was accepted to Marshall
School of Medicine
last year. Susie finished
her masters in biochemistry and during her research project discovered a
new sequence in a cellular pathway.
Susie is now in her first year of medical school at Marshall.
Amy and Billy are now married.
We are still waiting for our first grandchild, but have been left
with the care of our children's dogs in the meantime. I visit my
sister in Ironton on occasion and enjoy driving through the old
neighborhoods noticing changes and remembering my early years there
fondly. I did not gain
fame or fortune during my life's journey to this point, but I have been
blessed with riches - just not the monetary type. I wish to thank Danny personally for the web site he has created allowing us to say hello again and reminisce.
